The Devil Wears Prada
Lauren Weisburger
Doubleday
The Devil Wears Prada, a book by Lauren Weisberger, is the journey of a young college graduate, Andrea Sachs, and her struggles to make it up the fashion totem pole to work for the New Yorker. Andrea was fresh back from her travels around Europe and Southeast Asia and her graduation from Brown University when she landed the job as junior assistant to the editor in chief of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly, otherwise known as Îthe devil.'
The plot takes on the same 30ösomething-single-female-takes-on-the-world attitude as Bridget Jones' Diary, but with a bit more pity and a lot less humor. There are times when you'll laugh, but most of the time you'll wonder why you're wasting your time reading about a young woman's struggles in the working world when you could be living them.
The Devil Wears Prada is a quick, lighthearted summer read without any real substance. It could take your mind away from summer school and get you worried about post-graduation.
Rating: A light refreshing drizzle. Don't get too attached ÷ it will only last for a few summer afternoons.
