U.S. should think about long-term consequences of attacks

I have to applaud Jessica Lee's bold column in today's Wildcat. It's going to take a lot of strong-willed and logical voices (like Lee's) to stem the U.S. administration's feverish, warmongering attitudes. Lee's column affirms that the time is now to take prompt action to right the misguided foreign policy of the United States to one that is more in tune with the social, economic and environmental realities of a global community. It is through the establishment of fair relations with other nations that we can take the fuel away from terrorist organizations, such as al-Qaeda. [Read article]

We owe ourselves

When exactly did education become a matter of the bottom line? Tell me, really, because if I glean nothing else from this university, I would like to at least learn when it fell victim to the pseudo-capitalist plague that has enveloped the rest of our country. I would like to know when the state Legislature decided it was appropriate to wring dry higher education in order to fund its other forays into brazen fiscal negligence. And lastly, I would like to know when everyone else threw up their arms and accepted our education system's decay as a natural consequence of the business cycle. [Read article]

photo Issue of the Week: Background checks on international UA students

In an effort to prevent future terrorist threats, federal law enforcement agencies have been requesting confidential background information on thousands of international UA students since late last year. With the exception of Chinese, Indian, Japanese, South African and Western European students, information on all international students who attended the UA from 1985 to 1992, as well as from fall 2000 to fall 2001, have been made available by UA administration.
