Marijuana possession

Three students were cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and two students were cited for both unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia Monday, after they admitted to smoking in a campus dorm room, reports stated.

At about 11:20 p.m., police went to Babcock Residence Hall, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., in response to a report of a smell of marijuana coming from a dorm room. Police arrived at the room, found the door a few inches open and saw several people inside.

Police knocked on the door and a student answered the door. Police stepped to the open door and could smell a faint smell of burning or burnt marijuana coming from the room.

Police spoke with a resident of the room who said her guests had been smoking marijuana in her bathroom, but she was not. Eventually, five students said they had smoked marijuana, two of whom gave police smoking pipes, reports stated.

Assault, minor in possession, trespassing

Police took an intoxicated man to jail after he started a fight inside a campus residence hall, reports stated.

At about 1:40 a.m., police went to La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., in response to a report of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance.

As police approached the dorm, they saw a man matching the suspect's description standing at the west entrance with another man.

Police noticed the man had a bloody nose, bloody lips and hands, and was stumbling around, losing his balance. His eyes were watery and bloodshot, his skin flushed and sweaty, and he had a strong odor of intoxicants on his breath. The other man was calm and collected.

Police asked the man why he was bloody, and he said, "I started a fight in my cousin's dorm," reports stated.

Police asked him why he started a fight, and he said, "I don't know, I knocked on their door to ask a question and then we began to argue and fight." Police asked who "they" were, and he said, "the people who hit me," reports stated.

Police asked him if he wanted to press charges, and he said, "No, I started it." Police asked if he had been drinking, and the man replied, "Yes, I am drunk," and later told police he was 19-years old, reports stated.

Police went to speak with the residents of the room where the altercation occurred. They spoke to one of the residents of the room, who said he, his roommate and his roommate's girlfriend were in the room when the man knocked on the door. The student answered the door, and the intoxicated man tried to push the door open and enter the room. The student told him to leave, and tried to shut the door, but the man put his foot in the doorway. The student said the man became verbally abusive, yelling, "Come out you pussies and fight. Come out you pussies, I'll kick your ass," reports stated.

The student said the man then tried to enter the room by pushing on the door. He came through the door, pushed and hit his roommate and threw a beer at the student.

The student told police, "At this time, to protect my roommate and myself, I hit the male in the left cheek with a right closed fist," reports stated.

The man fell in the hallway and the roommate's girlfriend contacted police.

The students refused medical attention. Police took the students to identify the man, and when one of the students saw him, he said, "That's him, that's the guy who came into my room and pushed and hit me," reports stated. Police later found a small pocket knife on the intoxicated man, and placed it into police property for safekeeping. The man was arrested for assault, first degree trespassing and for being a minor in possession of alcohol. The man threw up at Pima County Jail several times and told police that he drank too much, reports stated.

Unwanted phone call

A student reported receiving an unwanted phone call to her dorm room Sunday, reports stated.

At about 10 a.m. on Monday, the student told police she received the unwanted call in her dorm room at Pinal Residence Hall, 1511 E. Sixth St.

She said this was the first unwanted call she had received this semester, but she has had problems in the past with similar calls so she wanted the call documented with police.

At about 11 p.m. on Sunday an unknown man called the student's dorm room and said, "Hi," reports stated.

The man wanted to talk but would not reveal his identity. After about two minutes, the student hung up the phone. Later, other dorm rooms in the residence hall received similar calls. The student did not attempt using *57 to trace the call. No voice traits or background sounds were identifiable, reports stated.
