After not recieving a UA scholarship, Lumberjack eager to take on Wildcats

Kaaina Keawe has been to Tucson before.

It wasn't for vacation and it wasn't to watch a football game.

The Northern Arizona all-conference senior linebacker arrived in Tucson in 1998 on one of his recruiting visits.

Keawe wanted to become a Wildcat but he didn't fit into the Wildcat's plans and was never offered a scholarship. [Read article]

Senior chooses to put golf career on hold ö for now

Every April, senior golfer Ricky Barnes looks forward to when he can sit down with his roommates and watch the Masters from the first tee-shot to the final putt.

In 2003, things will be different.

"My roommates are telling me, ÎYou're not going to be here to watch it with us.'"Barnes said.

They'll get over it.

By winning the U.S. Amateur Sunday, Barnes earned an exemption to play in the 2003 Masters and the U.S. and British Opens. [Read article]

Baseball strikes out

As I followed the Major League Baseball labor talks for the past week, something became overwhelmingly evident to me ÷ a strike will not kill baseball, because baseball as most of the country once knew it is already dead.

America's pastime has passed, and all that remains is a contractual dispute among millionaires. Waiting to see if the second World Series in eight years would be cancelled gave me time to reflect on a few things I've always noticed, but never really put into perspective until now. [Read article]

NAU at Arizona

I know it is selfish, but dammit it's my last year here, and I have yet to see the football team go to a bowl game öö I want results. This could be the team that gives it to all of us. Flying in below the radar Arizona will not surprisingly win this game, but will turn a few heads starting this Saturday.

Arizona 35, NAU 10

Washington at Michigan

This could end up being the game that makes or breaks each team's shots at a BCS bowl. That in mind, the game should turn out to be all that it has been billed to be, with Washington pulling out a heart-stopping last second victory a la Colorado at Michigan 1995. [Read article]
