Heisman Trophy
If the UA basketball team went 37-1 this season, would that be good? If Tiger Woods won 37 of 38 tournaments, would that be a great year? What if Brett Favre went 37-1, would that make him the best ever? Well, Ken Dorsey is 37-1 as the starting quarterback at Miami, so why is there any question about who wins the Heisman?
WINNER: KEN DORSEY
National Champion
This one is harder to call than a beauty contest between Anna Kournikova and Mrs. Neuheisel. Assuming Miami wins, they get OSU in the Fiesta Bowl. Miami hasn't lost since Ortege Jenkins was a UA quarterback, and Ohio State's best player is a freshman. This one might be over before it starts. And my vote goes to Mrs. Neuheisel.
WINNER: MIAMI
Coach of the Year
Larry Coker hasn't lost, ever. But this award comes down to the person I would most like to see at the podium. I'll cast a vote for Washington coach Ricky-boy Neuheisel, for two reasons. First, I'm pretty sure he'd cry while accepting it. Second, because maybe, just maybe, his wife would attend the ceremony. Who am I kidding? Give it to Coker.
WINNER: LARRY COKER, MIAMI
Biggest Disappointment other than UA
The biggest disappointment of the year is obvious. But, my editor won't let me say the Wildcats. So here it is: the biggest disappointment of the year is Mohn Jackovic, head coach of the Ariversity of Unizona. Not only do his players dislike him, but he can barely win a game. I'll say it · at least Tomey won every once in a while.
WINNER: MOHN JACKOVIC, HEAD COACH, ARIVERSITY OF UNIZONA

Heisman Trophy
You gotta respect the grandma. Or, in this case, Penn State's Larry "Grandmama" Johnson, he of the 2,015 rushing yards ÷ tops in the nation ÷ on eight yards per carry. In his last two games, he had more rushing yards than Arizona did all year. Those Miami morons who celebrate fake-punt TDs with a 30-point lead could learn about class from Johnson, who doesn't celebrate at all.
WINNER: LARRY JOHNSON
National Champion
Miami's not even going to win its next game, much less the national title. That's right ÷ the streak ends this weekend against the Hokies. But even with a loss, the 'Canes will probably make the Fiesta Bowl instead of Georgia, which makes about as much sense as Justin Levasseur driving a box truck full of weed around rural Illinois on a Tuesday morning.
WINNER: OHIO STATE
Coach of the Year
Ty Willingham will win, but what about JoePa? This time last year, pundits were wondering whether the Nittany Lions' run as one of college football's perennial powerhouses was over, and now they're back near the top of the rankings. Plus, he's more entertaining ÷ the guy's got a referee hanging in effigy on his office door! You gotta love that.
WINNER: TY WILLINGHAM
Biggest Disappointment other than UA
We're not supposed to talk about Arizona's season. Hmm · how about Rex Grossman? He was supposed to be a Heisman favorite, and his QB rating's down 50 points from last year. He's a disgrace to his family. Spartan head coach Bobby Williams' team was so bad, he should publicly apologize. One of his players, Jeff Smoker, even has problems with drugs. At least UA isn't that bad.
WINNER: REX GROSSMAN

Heisman Trophy
As much as I'd like to see a Pac-10 guy win it, it's just not going to happen. The New York Athletic Club is going to give it to Ken Dorsey. He hasn't lost a game in over two years (the last time was against a Pac-10 school). He wins games and puts up big numbers. What more can you ask?
WINNER: KEN DORSEY
National Champion
Assuming Miami wins this weekend, the BCS did its job by getting the only two undefeated teams in the National Championship, but they aren't the two best teams. In a playoff system, USC and Iowa prevail, because they are playing the best right now. But for lack of a better choice, Ohio State squeaks by Miami behind a healthy Maurice Clarett.
WINNER: OHIO STATE
Coach of the Year
If anyone else wins this award, there is something wrong with the selection process. In his first year at the helm of the Irish, he turned a program that appeared to be in a tailspin with legal troubles ÷ and a mediocre record in 2001 ÷ into a national contender.
WINNER: TY WILLINGHAM
Biggest Disappointment other than UA
Oh, what could have been. The Spartans entered the season in everyone's Top 25 list loaded with talent. MSU struggled to a 4-8 season. However, wins and losses were the least of the team's worries. Former head coach Bobby Williams was dismissed before the season was over, and quarterback Jeff Smoker admitted to having a substance-abuse problem ÷ what college student doesn't?
WINNER: MICHIGAN STATE
Heisman Trophy
I am the biggest Miami fan, but no Hurricane deserves to win the Heisman. Clinton Portis said it best on The Best Damn Sports Show Period that the Hurricanes could beat a few NFL teams. There is too much talent on the field to give it to a Hurricane. The Heisman should go to Brad Banks, who has led Iowa to an unexpected BCS bowl.
WINNER: BRAD BANKS
National Champion
Ohio State will be praying this weekend that V-tech upsets Miami, because if not, OSU is going to be crying to its mommies after the Fiesta Bowl. I just wish there was a playoff so the two best teams, USC and Miami, could go at it. Dorsey against Palmer would be a game for the ages.
WINNER: MIAMI
Coach of the Year
Willingham took on the challenge of turning the most prestigious program in the country, while also dealing with the harsh reality that he is the first black coach at Notre Dame. I hate to use that as the deciding factor, but to have so few black head coaches and have one succeed at Notre Dame shows the true travesty in the coaching world.
WINNER: TY WILLINGHAM
Biggest Disappointment other than UA
I was at the Rose Bowl last year when Miami made the Cornhuskers look more like the Arizona football team than a team that is a contender for the national championship. The Cornhuskers never recovered from the beating that Miami gave them. This marks the first time in 34 years that Nebraska won't finish with nine wins, or in the AP Top 25.
WINNER: NEBRASKA
