Tuition increase will be wasted and won't stop UA brain drain

Yesterday's Opinions Board editorial ("College fees will prevent brain drain") is wrong: An increase in tuition will not prevent the brain drain. The inherent problem with the tuition increase is that there will be no benefit to students. No new hired professors, no free printing or services will follow the increase; instead, the money will be used to sustain operations at the current brain-draining, power-wasting, mass-constructing of needless buildings level. Wrong time for new cars

Does your employer provide you with a $24,000 car to get to and from work? If you were Mayor Bob Walkup and your employers were Tucson taxpayers, you would have to answer, "Yes."

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Walkup received a new Toyota Prius, one of the new "hybrid" gas/electric cars on Monday, which cost taxpayers $24,672. His optional navigation system cost $1,900, and his CD player cost taxpayers $335. [Read article]

Education does not stop when the UA closes.

As the semester winds down and the phrase "spare time" becomes more frequent in your daily vernacular, how about spending some time catching up on the current news and events? Over the break, most students will plop down at home on their sofa, watch a few holiday movies, prepare for the NCAA football national championship, finally finish the fourth Harry Potter book and/or hit the slopes.
