photo ÎClassic,' roast highlight celebration

Former Cats put on show to raise dough

During his pregame introduction at yesterday's Lute Olson All-Star Classic, former Wildcat Jason Terry jumped on the scorer's table. To a chorus of cheers, he was mimicking what he did after Arizona's 1997 win over Kansas in the Sweet 16. He continued to wow the crowd by scoring 38 points in the game.

Terry and the Blue team lost to the White team though, 125-123, in the classic, part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Arizona basketball. Khalid Reeves led the way for the White team with 25 points, including 13 of his team's final 22. [Read article]

It had the potential to be every former Wildcat basketball player's dream.

Instead, it turned out to be an evening of light ribbing and heavy laughs during the Lute Olson Celebrity Roast and Dinner on Friday, as part of the Arizona Basketball centennial celebration that took place over the weekend.

"It's a difficult situation to be in," said former UA star Steve Kerr of having to make fun at Olson's expense. "I mean, what am I going to say?" [Read article]

The Wildcats closed out fall camp Friday with a light walkthrough, followed by two days off before the team focuses its attention on the season opener Saturday at home against UTEP. [Read article]

Academic setbacks force forward to leave school

It's a mere two months before the opening tip-off, and the Arizona men's hoops team has suffered its first major setback of the season with the departure of one of its few returning big men.

When Arizona takes to the Lute and Bobbi Olson Court on Nov. 5 to square off in the annual Pepsi Red-Blue game, the Wildcats will be without the services of forward Chris Dunn. A 6-foot-6 redshirt freshman out of Hobbs, N.M., Dunn is no longer enrolled at the UA, making him ineligible to play this season. [Read article]

Soccer falls in preseason tune-up

The UA women's soccer team fell to UTEP, 3-1, in exhibition action in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday.

The Miners scored all three of their goals in the first 26 minutes of the game, but the Wildcats shut them down for the remainder of the contest. Arizona scored its lone goal of the match in the 83rd minute, when freshman midfielder Erin Bevacqua found the back of the net off a breakaway. [Read article]
