A power outage early yesterday morning affected 7,500 Tucson Electric Power customers north of the UA campus including some parts of the university medical complex.
The outage did not affect the University Medical Center itself, but other office areas in the complex briefly lost power, said George Humphrey, Arizona Health Sciences Center director of public affairs.
Humphrey said UMC has backup generators to use in case of a more serious outage.
The power outage occurred at about 5:30 a.m. when a piece of equipment attaching a power line to a pole at East Speedway Boulevard and North Silver Street failed, said Joe Salkowski, a spokesperson for TEP.
Affected areas were between East Ft. Lowell Road and East Fifth Street and between North Oracle Road and North Tucson Boulevard.
Power was restored to about half of the 7,500 customers, including the medical complex by 6:30 a.m., Salkowsi said.
Power was fully restored by a little after 8 a.m., he said.
