Econ building rename work begins, new signs go up soon
The Economics building was renamed the Cesar Chavez building Sept. 1, but some might have noticed yesterday that the building's signs read, "Business and Public Administration."
The former Economics building, 1110 E. N. Campus Dr., was originally called the Business and Public Administration building when it was built in 1952 and the name was etched into the building's marble.
When the Economics building sign was removed, making way for the new Cesar Chavez building sign, its original name was exposed, bewildering some onlookers.
"It is still going to be called the Cesar Chavez building and the signs are going up now," said Socorro Carrizosa, director of Hispano-Chicano student affairs.
The former Economics building, which houses the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics, the Mexican-American Studies and Research Center and Hispanic Student Affairs, has received criticism from some, but this has not affected its name change, Carrizosa said.
The building will have new signs up shortly, displaying its new name, Carrizosa said.
