Former UA standout adjusts to NBA life

Shaquille O'Neal. Kobe Bryant. Luke Walton.

One of those names is misplaced ÷ for now, that is.

An NBA rookie with an enormous reputation to uphold, Walton is attempting to duplicate his own collegiate success as well as that of his father, the NBA's Most Valuable Player in 1979.

During his five years in Tucson, the younger Walton led the Wildcats to three NCAA Tournament Sweet-16 appearances as well as to the 2001 National Championship game. [Read article]

Big weekend garners Abernathy national player of week award

If she was the best player in the country last week at just 70 percent, then the future is bright for sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Abernathy and the Arizona volleyball team.

Thanks to two dazzling performances during the Wildcats' weekend road trip to the Bay Area, Abernathy earned Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I National Player of the Week honors. The announcement came yesterday afternoon, just hours after she was named Pacific 10 Conference Player of the Week. [Read article]

Commentary: UA games not as fun as football down South

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ö Go back a week and a half and imagine RVs pulling onto the UA Mall Sunday before a home game, Wildcat banners and flags galore.

On the other side of the stadium, the exact same thing is taking place, but everything is covered in UCLA colors and emblems. Imagine the game being moved to San Diego, because a home-field advantage would be too much for one team to bear.
