A man was arrested for theft and aggravated assault Saturday after "the voices in his head" told him to steal a purse and drive away from police, reports stated.

The man stopped at a Circle K on the corner of North Park Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard at 4:27 a.m. When he parked his gray Isuzu pickup at a gas pump, he hit a motorcycle in front of him.

The owner of the motorcycle asked him for his identification and insurance information, but the man said he had neither. After determining that there was no damage to her motorcycle, she told the man he could go, reports stated.

As he was driving away, the man grabbed the woman's purse out of a basket on the motorcycle. The woman yelled for help as the man drove off.

A police officer who heard the woman yell turned on his emergency lights and followed the man through a red light at the North Euclid Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard intersection, reports stated.

The man then drove into a parking lot, running over two concrete blocks. The officer followed him through an alley and eventually in and out of another parking lot.

When the man drove down another alley, he hit a telephone pole. After hitting the pole, the man reversed the truck at a high speed, ramming the police car behind him, reports stated.

The man tried to run from the accident, but the officer stopped him after pulling out his gun. The man yelled to the officer that he was sick and that he was sorry for what he had done.

Other officers arrived and forced the man to the ground. While driving the man to Pima County Jail, he told an officer that he had smoked crack earlier in the night, reports stated.

The man also said that voices in his head told him to steal the purse and run from police.

The man was arrested for aggravated assault on an officer, reckless driving, theft and leaving the scene of an accident, reports stated.

The officer that he hit with the truck was treated for a 1-inch cut on his head and scrapes on his knee.

A group of students stopped a man running from the Old Chemistry building, 1306 E. University Blvd., after a woman said he had stolen something from her bag on Tuesday, reports stated.

The woman saw the man inside a limited access lab in the building rummaging through her bag at 3 p.m. The woman pounded on the door and told him to get out.

The man ran through another exit and out of the building. The woman chased him, screaming for help, reports stated.

A group of students heard her yelling and confronted the man. He proceeded to head-butt the first student, then surrendered after the others circled around him.

When police arrived, the man said he had drunk four 40-ounce bottles of beer earlier in the day and went to use a restroom in the building. He said he had blacked out and didn't remember anything besides the woman chasing him, reports stated.

After searching the man, police found that he had not stolen anything. He was arrested for criminal trespassing and interrupting an educational institution.

Police arrested a man while he tried to hide his fake driver's license after an officer pulled over the car he was driving in Friday, reports stated.

The officer stopped the car at midnight at the North Park Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard intersection because it didn't have headlights on.

The man sitting in the passenger seat did not have his seatbelt on. When the officer asked for identification, the man turned away from the officer and took out his driver's license.

The officer saw another license in the man's wallet and asked what it was. The man said it was a fake driver's license, reports stated.

The man was cited and released.

A man suspected his wife had attached a stolen license plate to his car after police pulled him over Friday, reports stated.

An officer driving behind the man ran a record check on his license plate and found that it had been reported stolen. When the officer questioned the man, he said that his wife might have put it on the car because they were having "domestic problems."

The officer found that the man had a suspended driver's license. He was cited for possession of a fictitious license plate and for driving with a suspended license plate, reports stated.

Police could not confirm that the wife had placed the stolen license plate on his car.
