photo Softball: Hit her if you can

As Alicia Hollowell continues to break Arizona softball records, the hardware keeps piling up.

The junior pitcher was named Pacific 10 Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-Tuesday, the league office announced yesterday.

Hollowell, who earned her second selection of the season and the 92nd all-time for the No. 1 Arizona softball team, tossed two no-hitters in the Compass Bank Invitational this weekend in Waco, Texas. [Read article]

Student section step in the right direction

After 18 years, UA students finally have a place inside McKale Center where they can cheer in unison during men's basketball games, but is there really reason to celebrate?

In the process of "correcting" the problem of a student section-less McKale Center, Arizona Athletics failed to right the most obvious problem.

Tickets will still be assigned via a lottery system.

To their credit, instead of a random lottery, the system will be weighted based on how many years a student has owned a Zona Zoo pass. Those with more years will have a better chance at winning tickets. [Read article]

photo Men swim for Pac-10 titles today

Long Beach, Calif., will be invaded by top swimming competition today through Saturday as the No. 8 Arizona men's swimming team competes in the Pacific 10 Championship against some of the nation's best teams, including No. 1 Cal, No. 3 Stanford and No. 9 Southern California.

The preliminary action begins at noon with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m. at Belmont Plaza.

Last year, the men placed third in the Pac-10 and fifth in 2003. [Read article]

No. 6 Laxcats host No. 5 Michigan

The No. 6 Arizona men's club lacrosse team seeks revenge at home on No. 5 Michigan today at 5 p.m. at the Rincon Vista fields.

After the Laxcats suffered their first loss of the season to Sonoma State, the Wolverines moved up to No. 5, ahead of Arizona, making this week's match up one of the most awaited games of the season.

This disappointment added to the Laxcats frustration following the one goal loss to the Wolverines last season. [Read article]
