Things you always never wanted to know

  • It has been estimated that the eye muscles move more than 100,000 times a day. It is believed that many of these rapid eye movements take place during sleep.

  • Frank Simon lifted a 136-pound motorcycle above his head and balanced it on his teeth for 10 seconds on the set of "El Show de los Records" in Madrid, Spain, on Oct. 4, 2001.

  • The International Committee of the Red Cross, founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1893, has received three Nobel Peace Prizes, in 1917, 1944 and 1963. The last award was shared with the League of the Red Cross Societies.

  • Among the countries not suffering from civil unrest, the United States has the highest rate of civilian gun ownership. Surveys in 1999 found that around 40 percent of U.S. households have at least one firearm. The United States has more than 200 million firearms - more than the number of adults in the country.

  • Google, with around 4.28 billion pages, has the largest continually refreshed index of Web pages out of all the world's search engines. Founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google handles 200 million queries every day - 2,000 a second during peak hours - and has an index of 3 trillion words.

  • In 2002, David Copperfield had the highest annual earnings of any magician with $55 million, according to the 2003 Forbes Celebrity 100 list. Copperfield has performed illusions such as making a jet plane disappear and walking through the Great Wall of China.

  • The highest point-scoring average for basketball players who have exceeded 10,000 is 30.1 by Michael Jordan, who scored a total of 32,292 points in 1,072 games playing for the Chicago Bulls (1984-98) and the Washington Wizards (2001-03).

  • The record for the most Smarties eaten in three minutes using chopsticks is held by Kathryn Ratcliffe, who ate 138 Smarties on Oct. 25, 2003, breaking her own record of 112.
