Squad looking to rediscover offense

The Arizona men's club ice hockey team hits the road for the second time this season against St. Louis today and tomorrow.

Icecats head coach Leo Golembiewski said he made a concerted effort this season to go out on the road and show other Division I teams in the American Collegiate Hockey Association that after two years out of the national spotlight, the Icecats are back.

Arizona (3-2) played No. 4 Rhode Island, then-No. 6 Buffalo and No. 7 Michigan-Dearborn at the ACHA Showcase in Youngstown, Ohio, from Oct. 21-22, winning two of three games before splitting its home series with ASU last weekend.

While the Icecats will miss the Homecoming festivities in Tucson, senior co-captain Cole Dunlop said he is looking forward to returning to his hometown of St. Louis for the weekend's games.

The defenseman said he has family and friends in the area who plan on coming to watch him play.

"The rink we're playing at is about 10 minutes from my house," he said. "I skated there all summer, so I should have some friends come watch."

Golembiewski said the team is fortunate to have two capable goaltenders in freshman Nick Boddy and sophomore Luke Edwall.

Edwall played both games of the ASU series after asking to guard the net for Saturday's game, but Boddy will get his scheduled start this weekend. Golembiewski said he still plans on rotating the two depending on who's hot.

Freshmen Matt Conover and Robbie Nowinski had great weekends for Arizona, Golembiewski said, adding that he expects them to help kick start the team's offense against the Billikens.

After averaging 5.6 goals per game in Ohio, the Icecats combined for only five scores against the Sun Devils.
