What is a liar?

Like all pieces of loaded language, it means different things to different people. But most would say that a liar is someone who knowingly makes a false statement.

For an example, see Bill Clinton's whopper, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

As of late, many prominent figures on the left (congressmen, activists, filmmakers of considerable girth) have been saying that our current president is a liar because of the false statements he made regarding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. [Read article]

Time no longer on our side

"College is awesome, don't ever graduate," a friend casually noted while tent-hopping during Homecoming. "Add a major, add a minor, go abroad, stay."

Some students stay for five or six years because they partied too much and slacked their way to the extra time. Others are in one of the several majors on campus with severe class availability problems, and they simply couldn't get the classes to graduate on time. [Read article]

Editorial: Permission granted

New WebReg system will improve efficiency

Academic advisers and students tired of nonmajors taking up all their seats may heave a collective sigh of relief after a much-needed computer program from the Office of Registration is put into place.

The program, WebReg Permissions, first developed in 2004, is ready for departments and could be used as early as next semester. It augments the current WebReg system by allowing departments to enforce such requirements as prerequisites and honors status. [Read article]

'Stereotypical Caucasian mascots' also exist

"Indian mascots boost self-esteem of white sports fans." Really? As a 20-year fan of the Dallas Cowboys, I really dislike the Washington Redskins, but of course my esteem does go up when they lose (same as with the Arizona Cardinals).

If Indian mascots are so bad, why do tribes like the Cherokee, Utes, Seminole, etc. give their blessing to continued usage of Indian mascots? [Read article]
