UA cleared of blame in garage assault
photo

A Pima County judge yesterday ended a trial involving a political science senior who was sexually assaulted on campus, ruling in favor of the Arizona Board of Regents days before the jury was expected to issue a verdict.

The student filed a lawsuit against the board earlier this month, alleging the UA wasn't taking necessary precautions to protect her from being sexually assaulted by a man during the daytime in the Park Avenue Garage in 2002.

In April 2002, the student was pushed into her car while she was getting out of it to go to the library. After a man tried to assault her, he ran off. The incident was the sixth sexual assault to happen on campus in a week. [Read article]

Sun Devils swarm TCC for dominant 8-1 victory

Arizona State spoiled the Arizona Icecats' 26th season opener last night at the Tucson Convention Center in an 8-1 rout.

The Sun Devils jumped on top of the Icecats early when freshman forward Joe Ahern scored on an assist from defenseman Tony Bonacorso less than a minute into the game.

"They scored in the first minute, and that's never good," Icecat head coach Leo Golembiewski said.

ASU stayed on the offensive early, controlling the puck the game's first three minutes. [Read article]

Jimmy Eat World exploded onto the national music scene when "The Middle" hit "TRL" in 2001 and stayed in rotation on VH1 for a couple more years. Since then, life hasn't been quite the same for guitarist Tom Linton.

Their increased popularity has taken them all over the world and to star-studded events. At the MTV Video Music Awards, Linton even got to meet one of his idols.  [ Read article]
