Medical school students may split with GPSC, join ASUA

Students from the College of Medicine threatened to split from the Graduate and Professional Student Council during a forum yesterday, citing a lack of medical student representation in GPSC.

Doug Hartz, former ASUA president and member of the Medical Student Government, said the priorities of GPSC are not in tune with students in the College of Medicine and said a proposed separation from GPSC would better serve the needs of medical students. [Read article]

We the people... state needs civics lesson photo

Attend any high school and a student would learn that America is a representative republic. Ask any student and they can quote parts of the Gettysburg Address: "We the people...."

But it appears that both government officials and interest groups in the state of Arizona have forgotten what they learned in high school government class.

With the passing of Proposition 200 and similar legislation, we have seen the state, its municipalities, and special interest groups try to thwart the collective will of the people. [Read article]

Men's Hoops: Cats open NIT play tonight

UA kicks off season at home against USD

The UA men's basketball begins its 2004-05 title run tonight as the Wildcats play San Diego in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament at 7 p.m.

While the Wildcats hope to be in a different kind of tournament come season's end, the preseason NIT holds prestige in the basketball community and could determine the character of this year's team.

To memorialize those who've lost their lives while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, members of a Poetry Center class have created an installation that fuses poetry, art and spirituality.

"SpeakWater: Regando La Frontera" is the first installation from a class or workshop to be displayed at the Poetry Center, said Gail Browne, director of the Poetry Center.  [ Read article]
