It's official - the votes are in.The GPSC approved the 1996 ASUA spring budget and the three nominees for student regent at their bi-weekly meeting last night.
The budget, which is the third revision approved by the Associated Students and the first to pass Graduate and Professional Student Council, will be active now until June 30. It passed by a vote of 15-0-3.
No action was taken on this version of the budget two weeks ago at GPSC's meeting because members felt they needed more time to review it before voting.
One area of concern for GPSC was funding for the Professional Opportunities Development program.
But Lisa Rashotte, a GPSC council member, said last night that POD is satisfied with the $15, 000 allotted to them because they will not need any additional funding for travel expenses.
The program brings professional opportunities for students, such as speeches and seminars, to campus.
The student regent nominees were approved unanimously by the GPSC. Next, Governor Fife Symington will select a nominee who must then be confirmed by the state legislature.
The nominees are Jonathan Schmitt, an agricultural and resource economics junior, Brook Rosenbaum, a political science and French sophomore, and Joseph Holmgren, a pre-medicine junior.
"This position is one of the most important student leadership positions in the country," said ASUA President Ben Driggs.
Driggs, along with members of GPSC, said they are confident and proud of any one of these three nominees representing the University of Arizona.
This position rotates from year to year between Arizona's three public universities. The current student regent is Mark Davis from NAU, who will serve until April 30.
