The Arizona women's golf team shot a final round 304 at the 1996 Conquistadores Arizona Invitational at Randolph Park Golf Course yesterday, giving the Wildcats a three-round total of 904 and a tie with Louisiana State for seventh place.

Texas (875) took the team title, beating second-place UCLA (882) by seven shots. Arizona State and San Jose State finished tied for third at 891, followed by Stanford (893) and Duke (906). Washington finished ninth at 916, and Southern Cal slid into the top 10 with 922.

Janice Moodie of San Jose State, which shot a tournament-low 67 on Tuesday, led the pack after the second round and never relinquished her lead. Moodie shot a 72 on the final day to claim the individual title at 213.

Kellie Kuehne (215) of Texas finished two shots behind Moodie for a second-place finish, while teammate Heather Bowie came in at third with a three-round total of 216.

Freshman Krissy Register led the way for the Wildcats. Tying for 11th place overall, Register recorded a score of 222, the lowest score of Register's young career. The top 20 finish is also the second of her career at Arizona.

"Register really played well," said UA head golf coach Rick LaRose. "She was very focused, very determined, and this was her best college tournament to date."

Teammate Heather Graff (226) tied for 25th place, while Maria Baena and Jeanne Anne Krizman both recorded scores of 230 and finished tied for 38th place.

"We just need to keep practicing," LaRose said. "When your two top players do not do well, it is hard for the team to do well. Obviously, we need our two best players to step up, and in this tournament, Register proved she is one of our best."

UA will next travel to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Classic, March 8-10.
