UA freshman Heidi Hornbeek was nearly perfect in three events, and her all-around score of 39.525 helped Arizona defeat No. 7 Brigham Young for the second time in as many meets.

The No. 8 Wildcats' mark of 195.075 was their third best this season and good enough to beat both BYU (194.625) and Utah State (192.60) Saturday night in Provo, Utah.

"The difference tonight was we hit on the beam and they didn't," UA coach Jim Gault said. "Reaching a score like this, after last week's success, proves we can be a consistent team capable of doing the job in two separate places."

Hornbeek scored a 9.90 on vault, a 9.95 on bars, a 9.90 on floor and a 9.775 on beam for her winning, all-around total. The first three scores all rank top-10 in Arizona history, but were not good enough to break any of Hornbeek's career records.

"Heidi did a great job of staying consistent in each event," Gault said.

Freshman Maureen Kealey shook off an illness and an injury to finish third in the all-around with a 38.60.

"You knew that BYU was going to get the big scores from their home judges. But by the time they reached the floor exercise and got their big scores, we had already won," Gault said. "Now, we just have to try and find a way to hold on to this consistency."
