Redirect disruptive flights over campus

Editor:

Now that there's a precedent, let's clear out an even bigger public nuisance. I refer to Davis Monthan Air Force Base, which is an endless source of disruptive noise, pollution and risk of sudden destruction of our campus, homes and property. Tucson, for all its other attractions, is surely among the most abused by the military. We must endure the noise, have fuel and other excreta dropped into our air, plus be held hostage to the kinds of crashes that have happened both here and in other cities.

If administrators cared enough to choose other flight paths, reduce their noise levels, etc., objections might be negotiated. However, their attitude is the equivalent of defecating in yards, and they routinely steal our peace of mind. Please, Davis Monthan, either get your act together and show some consideration for the people and air quality and noise level of Tucson and the UA or move out. As it is, our tax money would be much better spent on adequate homeless shelters than in subsidizing noise, pollution, the waste of fuel and the attendant illusion that this is all for some noble purpose.
