The position of student regent goes to one eligible UA student this year, and Gov. Fife Symington has made his pick.

After interviewing the three nominees for regent who had been confirmed by ASUA President Ben Driggs, the Undergraduate Senate and the Graduate and Professional Student Council, the governor chose Jonathan Schmitt, an agricultural and resource economics junior who has been at the University of Arizona for over two years.

If confirmed by the Arizona State Legislature, Schmitt will begin his term on May 1 of this year until April 30, 1997.

The position of student regent rotates between the UA, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University every year.
