Household affairs 'burden' for women

Editor:

In an article entitled "Women's Conditions" in the March 20 Wildcat, Miss Sato said that "Japanese women have fewer constraints at home than American women." She supports her argument by saying "women in Japan make decisions about family purchases, the children's education, even housing without their husbands' input." Well, I don't quite agree with her on this. Japanese men usually work long hours, and when they come home they don't want to get involved in family matters. Naturally, women, who tend to stay home, end up managing household affairs. I would not interpret this, as Miss Sato does, as women having fewer constraints, but as women having a greater burden.
