ASUA and religions discussed event date

Editor:

In October 1995, representatives of the Catholic Newman Center, the Hillel Foundation and the Campus Christian Center met the Associate Dean of Students Carol Thompson, Kirk Seeley, chair of Spring Fling, and Jim Drnek, ASUA advisor, to discuss the issue of the Spring Fling dates.

At that time we all raised our objections to having Spring Fling held during Passover and Holy Week. It was explained to us that the contract with the carnival company had been arranged several years ago, and that the committee had not reviewed potential date conflicts. Since that time, a five-year calendar of religious holidays was created by the University Religious Council and was disseminated to the university community by the registrar's office. We hope and pray that in the future, Spring Fling will not conflict with these or any other religious holidays again.
