Arizona State can never be taken lightly.

"Don't ever be fooled by their ranking. Arizona State has a very good team, and it will be a hard fought match just like always," head coach Becky Bell said.

"It is huge, it's going to be a war," men's assistant coach Tom Hagedorn said.

The fourth-ranked women's tennis team (19-3 overall, 7-2 in the Pacific 10 Conference) will host ASU tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Robson Tennis Center, while the 19th-ranked men's team (12-8, 2-7) will travel to Tempe for their 1:30 p.m. start.

Both of UA's tennis teams are one win from a season sweep of the Sun Devils.

"Sure, we would love to sweep them. We have swept UCLA, Cal, SC (Southern Cal), so it would be great," Bell said.

The women defeated ASU (11-9, 1-8) 5-3 in Tempe on March 26, a match that was forced to end in doubles play after Arizona took an early 4-0 lead.

The men's team took advantage of a depleted Sun Devil team, winning 6-1 at Robson.

ASU was without its top player, Oscar Bustos, and senior Paul Reber, who was out with a strained muscle in his shoulder.

"Saturday's is a big match. A win would give this team a lot of confidence, which will help us at regionals," senior Eddie Schwartz said.

UA men's team and ASU have gone in streaks the last three years with ASU winning both in 1993, then UA beating the Sun Devils three times in 1994 before losing both again to the Sun Devils last season.

"If we beat ASU, then it looks like we should get a one or two seed and the bye in the West Regional, so that is what we are concentrating on now," Schwartz said.

Next up for both teams is the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif., an individual tournament for singles as well as doubles. The men begin on Wednesday, while the women start on Thursday. Both teams will send participants for the doubles and singles tournament.

The West Regional tournament starts for the men in Las Vegas on May 3-5.

"It all boils down to regionals. Everyone has to bring their game around for us to be successful," senior Chris Jenkins said.

The women will bypass the regional with their top-10 ranking and proceed directly to NCAA Tournament.
