Three University of Arizona athletes were selected for the GTE Academic All-America Team.

Sophomore Kenny Corley, of Phoenix, was chosen for the 1996 District VIII baseball team. Sophomore Vicki Maes, of Hamme, Belgium, was chosen for tennis, and Junior Viola Schaffer, of Tucson, was chosen for track and field.

In order to be selected for the Academic All-District VIII Team, student athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or important reserve and be in at least their second season of their current school.
