Former Arizona All-American Damon Stoudamire was named the NBA's Rookie of the Year on May 15 after a season in which the 5-foot 11-inch point guard averaged 19.1 points, 9.3 assists and four rebounds for expansion team Toronto Raptors.

Stoudamire set a rookie record for three-point field goals by making 133 of 337 shots from beyond the arc. He averaged 40.9 minutes per game this season before being sidelined the last two weeks with tendinitis. Stoudamire was picked seventh in last June's draft after finishing his senior season with the Wildcats. During his senior year at Arizona, Stoudamire averaged 22.8 points per game.
