You don't have to travel far from the university to find good food, shopping and fun.

Businesses have flocked to the university area, providing most of the necessities of collegiate life.

In talking to students on campus, there were a few places named time and again as favorites, but a lot of different opinions were also expressed on the best places to frequent. Some all-around favorites in the Wildcat's unofficial survey were:

Best Pizza: Grandma Tony's, 970 E. University Blvd.

Runner-up: Mama's Pizza, 831 N. Park Ave.

Favorite Music Store: Zia Record Exchange, 3370 E. Speedway Blvd.

Best Coffee/Place to Hang Out: Coffee Etc., 2830 N. Campbell Ave.

Or, if you want to stay a little closer to campus, try Bentley's House of Coffee and Tea, 1730 E. Speedway Blvd.

Best Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt: Cold Stone Creamery, 1927 E. Speedway Blvd.

Best Bicycle Shop: The Bike Shack, 940 E. University Blvd.

Encircling the university are dozens of other businesses, and many more are on the way.

A little exploration north of campus on East Speedway Boulevard near North Campbell Avenue, reveals a Blockbuster Video, Boston Market and Buffalo Exchange (a used clothing store).

South of campus on North Sixth Avenue, you can find pizza shops, Mexican food and bicycle shops.

Another favorite spot for shoppers with a flare for the unusual is North Fourth Avenue, about four blocks west of campus. Shoppers can find all kinds of food, jewelry, books and thrift shops.
