Tucson offers handful of clubs that let under-21s boogie down

OK, so you have just discovered that Tucson is not exactly a mecca of teenage entertainment on the weekends. So what are you to do if you want to go out socializing and dancing the night away? Well, you can always obtain a fake I.D., but I'm not one to advocate such illegal actions.

Some of Tucson's dance clubs do have "teen nights," where kids 18 and older can go, without the alcohol, and dance, socialize and have fun. Too bad most of Tucson's clubs end their teen nights once the fall starts, but during the school year, a few Tucson clubs still have teen nights on weeknights.

Here are a few clubs around Tucson catering to those of you 18 and older:

Tuesdays at the Wildcat House, 1801 N. Stone Ave., is alcohol-free, college night. The club plays Top 40 dance music without the hip-hop. Back in my teenage days, the club was bombarded by nothing but rap music, which is all right to bob your head to, but that tends to get tiresome. Now, they play what you normally hear on the Top 40 radio stations. Usually when you arrive, you'll see many people you know from class, your dorm, your apartment complex or just around campus. With your college ID, the cover is $3; without, it is $5.

Now, if you're looking for something a lot different than the 'Cat House, head over to The Fine Line, 101 W. Drachman St. This is the club for the high school crowd, the college crowd, and a small, post-college crowd. The Line plays techno, industrial and goth music. So, the crowd you'll see is, again, completely different than at the Wildcat House - everyone dressed in black, from head to toe, people in vinyl pants and a cigarette in everyone's mouth. I must admit, The Line is a great place for people-watching and for a change of pace, as far as music goes. You can go almost anytime of the night, since the club is open from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Just changing over from the 21-and-over crowd to the 18 and over crowd is Club 151, 95 N. Park Ave. Now, I haven't been here, but like The Fine Line, the club is open into the early hours of the morning (10 p.m. to 4 a.m.) on Friday and Saturday nights only.

So, kids, if you want other things to do, listen to the radio, and they will usually announce big concerts held by other clubs that are all-ages, or 18-and-over. This might hold you over until the next week.
