After two months of being away from the golf course, the Arizona men's golf team is ready to swing back into action.

The Wildcats host the PING Arizona Intercollegiate Tournament Feb. 5-6. The tournament will be played at the Raven Golf Club at Sabino Springs - a new 6,900 yard, par-71 course.

The tournament field includes Colorado, Houston, Fresno State, and Pacific 10 Conference rivals Arizona State, Stanford and Southern Cal.

For the seven tournaments they competed in during the fall semester, the Wildcats finished in the top 10 four times. Their highest finish of fourth place came back on Sept. 17 at the Golfweek/PING Fall Preview, where rival Arizona State finished first with a combined score of 867.

The men also placed fourth at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate Tournament on Oct. 24. Arizona State was the victor in that tournament as well, shooting 882.

Coming off a 15th-place finish at the GolfWorld/Palmetto Dunes Tournament on Nov. 12, the Wildcats are looking to get back to their winning ways.

Arizona is led by Ted Purdy and Rory Sabbatini. Purdy, who is averaging 74.05 per round, tied for fourth place at the Pate Intercollegiate and has placed in the top 20 in three tournaments this season.

Sabbatini (73.89) has twice finished in the top 20. His highest finish of the year came at the College All-American Golf Classic on Oct. 21, where he tied for third.

In last year's PING Arizona Intercollegiate tournament, the Wildcats' Red team finished third with a score of 847. Oklahoma State captured first place (841), beating out Texas by two strokes.

The tournament will tee off for two rounds at 8:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. The final round is tomorrow starting at 8 a.m.
