Poggemeyer injured in meet

The No. 21 ranked Arizona women's gymnastics team lost a meet and a key gymnast this weekend at the Shanico Invitational in Corvallis, Ore.

The Wildcats finished third to UCLA and Nebraska, and junior Tenli Poggemeyer sustained a knee injury on the first pass of her floor exercise routine.

"Tenli was on crutches coming home from Oregon," UA head coach Jim Gault said. "(We) will have to see how she practices for the next two weeks, and it may take a small miracle to get her healthy for the (Pacific 10 Championships)."

The Wildcats led for the first three rotations over the No. 6 Cornhuskers, but struggled on the floor exercise. But Becky Bowers and Maureen Kealy both fell in their routines on the floor, attaining scores of 9.05 and 9.1, respectively, which caused Arizona's lead to disappear.

"(We) were not sharp on the floor, and need more practice to bring things together," Gault said.

Sophomore Heidi Hornbeek led Arizona in the all-around, placing third, with a 39.20.
