Wilson's appeal shows a 'woeful lack of character'

Editor:

With regard to the notice that Rhonda Wilson will be appealing the election results reported in Friday's Wildcat, I say phooey.

Her intention to appeal is based on the fact that her "ability to campaign competitively was impaired to a point ... that it appeared to impact significantly on the outcome of the election." By impact significantly they mean that she lost. Apparently the year she spent at the helm of the student government and the numerous times she was quoted and pictured and referred to in the Wildcat went unnoticed by the 2,000 students who bothered to vote. Given the one year of exposure she enjoyed, the suspension of her campaign privileges for 20 hours could not have impacted the results to the extent she claims.

The students did not vote on a lark. The only students who voted are those who, like myself, care to have their opinions heard. 2,000 out of a campus of over 30,000 bothered to participate and their opinion in this regard was more than two to one that she should not be retained as president.

If she appeals the decision she will be demonstrating a woeful lack of character, a lack of the kind of character that would have kept her in office.
