Stories and letters on Union plaque cleaning are based on 'half truths'

Editor:

After reading the article on the plaques in the Student Union, I was upset. But after reading Tuesday's opinions I was more than upset. Don't you (the editor) read what your reporters write? That article should have been in the opinions section. Your repo rter got only half of the information he needed to write the story properly and then wrote an opinion and not a news story. Now you've got the student body believing an opinion based on a bunch of half truths. This was evidenced by Mr. Sean Schauer's opin ion. Mr. Schauer, if you would have done your homework, you would have known that in the late 1970s, someone vandalized the plaques by throwing paint all over them. When facilities maintenance cleaned them they took the sealant off. That's why Epsilon Tau Sigma fraternity is raising money to have them professionally cleaned and resealed. This fund-raising project began last spring and is continuing. If you paid more attention to the "editorial" you would have known this. Next time please know the facts an d present all of them in your story or editorial.

If anyone is interested in helping raise funds for this worthy cause please visit the Veterans Office in the Administration Building for more information.
