Lacrosse grateful for aid from Rec Center

Editor:

On Monday, February 24, a letter to the editor was printed that was titled, "Useless recreation department ignores lacrosse." This letter can best be described as one of severe frustration. The truth is that Arizona lacrosse has struggled to run a program with a complete lack of funding for decades. However, the letter printed did not have all of the facts straight. Campus recreation is not to be blamed for the injustices that have occurred. In fact, the recreation department has been one of the few willi ng to help our program. Director Mary O'Mahoney has been instrumental in the growth of our program and has been a tremendous asset in securing a UA field for us to play on. This is something that the Arizona lacrosse team has not had in years.

There are lots of politics involved that end up hurting club sports. The university is often willing to rent fields instead of giving them up for club sports. Club sports like lacrosse work very hard and are seldom recognized; they should not be denied he opportunity to at least play on university fields.

Again, the previous letter was written out of anger and frustration. The recreation department should not be held responsible in any way for the problems that Arizona lacrosse has recently encountered. We apologize for the misunderstanding and hope that t his letter will fix any damage that has been done.

In addition, we would like to put out a special thanks to Mary O'Mahoney and her staff for all that she has helped us with over the course of the year. Any success that we attain this year can be partially credited to you and your staff.
