Wilson should know and follow election rules

Editor:

With regards to Raphael Gruener's letter Tuesday, I would like tomake a few points, if I may.

Although I am not privy to the reasoning behind the UA Supreme Court'sdecision regarding Rhonda Wilson's campaign privileges with regards to expenditures, I do feel confident in making this point. Plain and simple:

She broke the rules. In the rules governing campaign processes and expenditures, it requires that "all" goods and services received, whether by donation or directcost, be declared on an expenditure sheet. The reason for this is prettydirect: To ensure the fairness of the campaign. I sincerely doubt it isthe intent of the Supreme Court to encourage candidates for variouselected positions to wantonly spend away their dollars, especially the students who can ill afford it.

Regardless of the justification for such a rule, which is designed toencourage fair campaign practices, the point is, Ms. Wilson broke it. Not only is it rather interesting that the former president of the studentbody is ignorant of the laws and regulatio ns which she vowed to uphold, but that she is protesting them . at a point which is most convenient forher.

Finally, one would hope that Ms. Wilson would have enough faith in herfellow students to believe that we are not so fickle as to disregard orforget her campaign or platform for the mere 20 hours she was suspended.

The majority of the students, I am sure, made their decision with a sound conscious and if Ms. Wilson holds the opinion of the student body in any regard at all, should respect it and abide by the overwhelming majority that voted for newly elected preside nt.
