Thoughts on the Road to Indianapolis

Hey, is there anything good on television this weekend? ...

Maybe if I would have sprung for something a little nicer than McDonald's when I took the people at Bon Voyage Travel out to lunch, I could be in Indianapolis right now ...

So, ASUA president Rhonda Wilson gets to go to the Final Four with her dad and the trip is being fully funded by the athletic department. She even got to fly on the team charter. Let's review: Get elected student body president. Break election rules. Lose re-election. Get free basketball tickets. Go to the Final Four. Where do I sign up? ...

I was on the Internet the other day fooling around when I stumbled onto ESPNET's Tournament Bracket Challenge. Believe it or not, some people out there actually had Arizona winning the championship. Oh sure, the Wildcats are good, but raise your hand if you honestly believed this was possible three weeks ago? I didn't think so ...

Of the 172,000 plus people who entered the contest, over 60 percent had Kansas winning the championship. The one Tucsonan among the top 10 participants actually has Arizona losing in the championship game. Fairweather ...

I for one am not ashamed to admit that I thought Kansas would win. Wait, who am I kidding? I should be fired ...

Knowing the media, Arizona could win the championship by 50 points and somebody will still bring up the first round losses ...

Bennett Davison is the key to the weekend. If he continues to play the type of defense he's played so far in the Tournament, the Wildcats could be hoisting the trophy on Monday night ...

I heard the worst Final Four-influenced song on the radio yesterday. Some station took the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" and turned it into "Wildcats". If you're Miles Simon, do you want to be associated with a song called "Wannabe"? Again, I didn't think so ...

Speaking of Simon, he says he won't enter the NBA Draft after the end of the season. That should serve notice to the rest of the Division I teams in the country: If not this year, beware this Arizona team in 1998 ...

Next year's UCLA-UA games could be the most exciting ever if everybody stays in school. Consider also that the two schools could be ranked in the preseason top five and you begin to realize just how fun those games will be ...

Some friends of mine said that while on spring break in Mexico they encountered some Arizona State students who were cheering for Arizona during the win over top-ranked Kansas. The Sun Devil faithful claimed to only be exercising a little state pride. I don't know any UA students who rooted for those chokers in the Rose Bowl. Is it possible that Phoenix is home to as many fairweathers as Tucson?
