WAC foes next up for Wildcats

The recent string of losses haven't angered senior Henrik Wagner, as much as the team's lack of heart and concern.

"We're all playing pretty good tennis, but we don't fight enough," said Wagner, who's a senior and a Arizona's No. 1. "I'll be playing on my court and I'll look over at (someone who) lost and they don't say anything after the match."

The No. 62 Wildcats (5-8 overall, 0-7 in the Pacific 10 Conference Southern Division) have two chances this weekend to put an end to their five match losing streak. The team plays No. 31 UNLV in Los Vegas this afternoon and No. 32 Fresno State tomorrow. Both matches begin at noon.

Head coach Bill Wright did not express similar sentiments about the team's dedication.

"We haven't lost any heart at all," Wright said. "We just need to step up and we're going to be tough."

The Running Rebels (14-4, 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference) and Bulldogs (10-9, 2-0 in the WAC) won't be easy though.

"We're not playing 100 percent, it looks more like 90 (percent), and you can't win matches playing like that," Wagner said.

Wright said Arizona will keep the lineup they had in their 6-1 loss to Arizona State on Wednesday. Freshman Jose Devercelli, who is 1-2 in dual matches, replaced freshman Jean-Noel Lacoste in singles.

Lacoste is still recovering from a groin injury.

Oliveri is slowly healing from a back injury. He is 2-5 since he began playing dual matches on Feb. 28. Wright said his presence means a lot to the team, despite his losing record.

"Every match Jerome can play helps the team (because) he gets a little more match-tough," Wright said. "We're not as good of a team without him in the lineup."

Devercelli said the team needs to focus on winning the big points to get the job done on their court.

"Everybody feels they had their chance against ASU," Devercelli said. "All the players are (usually) pretty even, but we need to make it true on the scoreboard and come through."
