BGALA helps to educate community

Editor:

First, I'd like to applaud Hattie Sabia for her insightful letter. Secondly, I'd like to tell Thomas Henry ("Outrage over BGALA action should be refocused on deteriorating education" Thursday) that he has completely missed the point. He makes the statement that college isn't about "finding yourself." I'd say that most people including myself have learned more about themselves and others during their college experience. College is the place we educate ourselves about the world. It's where we find out who we are as intelligent human beings and where we plan to go. Education includes opening people's minds to the differences of us all.

You see, what you have missed, Thomas, is that BGALA isn't only there to help the homosexual community. As a matter of fact, it's primarily there to EDUCATE the U of A community. It helps to create an environment of awareness in which we can all learn about each other and free ourselves from prejudices. We need groups like BGALA to help make the U of A a non-hostile environment. Can't you see that BGALA is there to unify us, but all you want to do is divide us?
