Simon's decision to remain in school a good choice

Editor:

I am writing in reference to the "Simon returns for all the wrong reasons" column written in the Tuesday edition of the Wildcat. I find Mr. Bricker very amusing when he says that top notch athletes should stay in school for academics and not athletics. Mr. Bricker, do you not realize that these athletes are bred to become pro athletes at a very young age? They have not grown up to become academic superstars. They have the opportunity to make a lot of money in a short amount of time doing something they love. Miles Simon is doing something that will raise his stock in the NBA draft and provide him with more money in the future. His career is basketball and he is trying to better his skills to better his career. Mr. Bricker, if your career was basketball would you not want to improve your skills? Your career is a student, so you are trying to better yourself for your future. At least Miles will not enter the NBA draft early hoping to succeed from his accomplishments in the NCAA tournament. (Ex. Scotty Thurman of Arkansas) If you are an NBA fan you will realize that staying in school for four years is a benefit for you and I as fans We do not need to watch more underclassmen bringing their unpolished skills to the NBA. I agree it would be great if there were more players like Tim Duncan and Grant Hill to represent academics, but when the money is there you can't fault these players. Mr. Bricker, you and I both want to better ourselves for our futures.

Don't fault Miles Simon for wanting to better himself.
