Student faces 36 charges in 3 Tucson bank holdups

A UA student was indicted by a Pima County grand jury Tuesday on 36 charges in connection with three local bank robberies.

Anthony L. Pellegrini, 19, a resident of Corleone Apartments, 1330 N. Park Ave., is charged with seven counts of armed robbery, 26 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of theft by control, court officials said yesterday.

Pima County Sheriff's deputies arrested Pellegrini at his apartment April 18, the same day a Bank One branch at 4660 E. Sunrise Drive was robbed. Pellegrini allegedly went into the branch with a shotgun and demanded money.

Pellegrini is also accused of robbing a Bank One at 4398 N. Campbell Ave. and a Bank of America branch at 6401 N. Campbell Ave. in February.

At the time of Pellegrini's arrest, Sheriff's officials said they believed Pellegrini was working with two accomplices.

Sgt. Leonard Pratt, a Sheriff's Department spokesman, said yesterday that detectives are looking for "at least one more individual" involved in the robberies. No other arrests have been made.

Pellegrini was in custody at Pima County Jail yesterday in lieu of $50,000 bond.
