By John Brown Arizona Summer Wildcat July 30, 1997 Crime down on campusThe University of Arizona experienced an overall decline in reported campus crimes for 1996.UA's overall drop in the number of crimes committed as well as crimes per 1000 people is consistent with the decrease the entire Tucson metropolitan area experienced during 1996. Northern Arizona University reported the only hate crime among the three universities. The number of alcohol related violations decreased at UA and Northern Arizona University while they remained constant at Arizona State University. There was also a decline in drug abuse violations at UA with a nearly 37 percent decrease reported last year. The number of crimes reported only reflect incidents that occurred within the University of Arizona Police Department's jurisdiction. |
