Men's golf places 7th in New Mexico

The Arizona men's golf team finished seventh at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, ending with a 2-under par 54-hole total of 862.

UA's Rory Sabbatini finished 10th with a 3-under 213 to lead the Wildcats, while Gary Mathews finished a stroke behind Sabbatini at 214.

Texas won the tournament at 16-under par while Arizona State finished second at 10-under.

The UA was as high as fifth after the first 36 holes of competition on Friday but faltered a bit Saturday to its seventh-place finish.

Other Wildcat players who finished were Scott Moore, who tied for 30th with a 1-over 217; Andy Barnes, tied for 45th at 219; Derek Gillespie, tied for 58th with a 221; and Todd Roce, tied for 75th at 225.
