The Wildcats don't mind being in the underdog position.

"We don't have anything to lose this weekend," UA sophomore defender Jillian Bressler said. "As an underdog it's always easier to come out and play hard because you have nothing to lose."

The UA soccer team (4-7 overall, 03 in the Pacific 10 Conference) will play No. 23 California, which was ranked fourth in the NSCAA West Region Coaches Poll, today, and St. Mary's, which is ranked sixth in the coaches poll, Sunday afternoon.

"Both teams are good, so it's just a matter of us coming out and playing well," UA head coach Lisa Fraser said.

Cal (8-1-1, 6-2) has won its last four games and has allowed just six goals this season.

"They have a program that has always been one of the top programs in the West region," Fraser said.

The Bears defeated the Wildcats 3-2 last season in the teams' only previous match.

"We know we have a much better chance of going in there and playing a hard game and coming out on top this time," Bressler said.

St. Mary's (6-5) is coming off a two-game losing streak after dropping both of its games against San Diego State and San Diego last weekend. Arizona and St. Mary's have never met in competition before.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christa Conway will continue to guard the net for Arizona. It was first thought that senior goalkeeper Jen Weibel was out for the season after suffering a knee injury two weeks ago. However, Weibel is on a week-to-week basis and may see some action before her final collegiate season comes to an end next month. Kate Mattson, a sophomore defender, is still out with a hyperextended knee.
