Be informed: Make use of police ride-along program

Concerning Mr. Verbeek's letter to the editor ("UAPD officers paid well enough for their jobs," Oct. 14), until you do some research on just what UAPD does, refrain from speaking on what you know little or nothing about. As a graduate student I would think you would realize the importance of gaining some background information before issuing an epistle on any topic. Maybe the haze you function in is due to the fact that UAPD is working hard to make this campus a safer place for you and the rest of us. Take advantage of it.

Having "been there and done that," I assure you that your view is superficial. Yes, there are many issues that need to be addressed and this is no less important than those you mention.

There is a saying, "walk a mile in my shoes...." Do it and you will probably be surprised. UAPD offers a ride-along program, try it out. Who knows you may learn something.
