DISTRICT 2

Ed Pastor

Democrat

incumbent

Pastor received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a law degree from Arizona State University.

His political experience includes his five years serving as Congressman for District 2 and serving on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors from 1977 to 1991. He was also a staff member for former Arizona Gov. Raul Castro. Pastor sits on the Agriculture, House Oversight, and Joint Library Committees in Congress.

Pator's top campaign priorities include the increase of federal funding for low-income and special-needs education programs, maintaining federal environmental regulations, and giving military retirees access to federal employee health.

Jim Buster

Republican

Buster received a bachelor's degree in journalism for the University of Arizona. He is currently a state senator and an insurance agent.

His political experience includes being mayor of Yuma from 1987 to 1990 and his six years as state senator.

While in the state Senate, Buster was chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and was a member of the Senate Health, Government, and Finance Committees.

Buster's top campaign priorities are to cut taxes to spur economic growth, balance the federal budget, fight attempts for welfare cuts, and reduce the environmental regulations on industry to create more jobs.

DISTRICT 5

Jim Kolbe

Republican

incumbent

Kolbe received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University.

Kolbe's political experience includes his six-terms as congressman for District 5 and being state senator from Tucson from 1976-82.

Kolbe sits on the House Appropriations and Budget Committees; two of the House's most influential committees in terms of dealing with taxpayer dollars.

His campaign goals include developing more free-trade agreements and eliminating the Social Security retirement program for younger workers.

Mort Nelson

Democrat

Nelson received his bachelor's degree in pre-med at Penn State University and doctoral degree from the college of optometry.

His political experience includes losing the election for the Board of Directors seat in Sun City Vistoso and being president of the Oro Valley Democratic Club.

Nelson's campaign agenda includes plans to hire more police officers, create a socialized medical system and build more jails.

John C. Zajac

Libertarian

Zajac received his bachelor's and master's degrees in biological science from Stanford University. He currently is a filmmaker making commercials.

His political experience includes being a Libertarian Party precinct committeeman and heading a student group backing 1980 independent presidential candidate John Anderson.

Zajac's top priority would be to repeal the assault weapons ban.

Ed Finkelstein

Reform

Finkelstein received a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University. He is a former newspaper reporter, publisher and English teacher.

His political experience includes unsuccessful campaigns for Tucson mayor, state Senate, U.S. Senate and Pima County Board of Supervisors.

His campaign goals are to reform the banking system and to make a third of the radio and television stations public.
