The Arizona men's and women's golf teams head to Hilton Head, S.C., this weekend to compete in the Golf World Invitational. The tournament, which tees off today, includes the top 16 men's and women's teams in the nation and runs through Sunday.

UA head coach Rick LaRose has been pleased with the play of both squads thus far, but is looking for a strong showing in the tournament, the last of the fall season.

"The proof of how good we really are will come this weekend," LaRose said. "We're just looking for a big team effort more than anything."

Playing on the men's side this weekend will be Gary Matthews, Rory Sabbatini, Andy Barnes, Derek Gillespie and Todd Rose. The women will be led by Heather Graff, Christina Tolerton, Jill Gomric, Jenna Daniels and Krissie Register, who returns to action after sitting out the Rolex Match Play Championships two weeks ago with tendinitis in her thumb.

Marisa Baena, last year's top collegiate women's golfer, is in the Philippines this week representing her native Colombia in the World Amateur Cup.

"Krissie is not yet 100 percent, but she is ready to get back to competition," LaRose said. "Her experience should really help give the team a lift."

The men will return to action Feb. 3-4 at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate, held in Tucson, while the women will begin their spring action in Los Angeles on Feb. 10-12 at the Regional Championship.
