You can argue about whether or not Art Luppino is the greatest football player in Wildcat history. What you cannot argue with, however, is Luppino's productivity.
From 1953 to '56, the "Cactus Comet" amassed rushing totals that are still Wildcat records. But it is his performance against New Mexico State on Sept. 18, 1954, which best illustrates the Luppino legend. During that game, Luppino rushed for 228 yards on six carries.
He also holds the record for most 100-yard rushing performances with 15 - eight of them coming during the 1954 season. A knee injury called off what could have been an amazing NFL career for Luppino.
