ASUA's cutting of sport clubs funding unfair

Editor:

Has the Associated Students forgotten its role on campus? It seems to me that the UA's student government has forgotten that they are here to represent us, the undergraduate students of the UA. Charges of nepotism and heavy-handedness have bombarded us since this semester began. The graduate students have broken away to do it alone.

Now, the ASUA has decided to cut sport club funding to zero in order to make up a budget shortfall. Why single out the sports clubs exclusively? Their excuse, liability, is obviously convenient, but why hasn't the liability issue been raised before now?

Am I the only one who feels that the ASUA is pressuring those they feel have no power base to draw on? Who is next?

The undergraduate students of this university deserve better than a copy of our federal government with all its pork and favoritism. The ASUA is our student government, not theirs. It should be pursuing an agenda which is good for the students of this university, not which advances [its members] own private agendas.
