Performers at Diva La Paz handled 'immature' protestors with composure, professionalism

Viva la Diva!

As a resident of La Paz, I would like to comment on the recent program held in my dorm, Diva La Paz. I was encouraged that hall government was open-minded enough to provide a potentially controversial show, in the interest of broadening horizons and education. I enjoyed the show. It was fun, vibrant and tasteful. However, during the performance I noticed a disturbance among the audience. I was in the back and didn't realize until later that people were actually throwing eggs at the performers.

It was utterly ridiculous! I am embarrassed to debase myself by calling those juvenile protesters my peers. How incredibly immature! I have no problems with differing opinions, I enjoy other viewpoints, but difference of opinion is no cause for disrespect. Those who threw eggs and posted biblical citations only proved their lack of intelligence and embarrassed themselves.

Their utter lack of tact and respect for the performance was an insult, not only to the performers, but to the entire audience as well. There is no reason to ruin a professional performance just so you can express your opinion. To be honest, the rest of us didn't particularly care to know your opinion. If you disapprove, then boycott and write letters of complaint. Throwing produce is on the level of elementary school spit wads.

I just want it to be known, the performers were completely professional, and handled the injustices with graceful composure. They were wonderful and I hope they will not hold the actions of a few against the support of many. To Miss Simone, Miss Renard, Miss Bubbles and Truly Fabu: You were absolutely fabulous! I admire your grace and courage and above all your professionalism. Please know your performance was greatly appreciated and we hope you will come back. Thank you!
