With the Pacific 10 Conference schedule finished, the bowl picture is clear.

Well, almost.

With Stanford's 42-21 win over California, the Cardinal (6-5 overall, 5-3 in the Pac-10) secured the conference bid in the Dec.31 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.

Anyone at the Arizona-Arizona State game knows that No. 3 ASU (11-0, 8-0) will represent the Pac-10 in the Jan. 1 Rose Bowl against Big Ten champ Ohio State (10-1) in Pasadena, Calif.

Washington finished second in the conference and is guarunteed a bowl game, either the Jan. 1 Cotton Bowl in Dallas or the Dec. 30 Holiday Bowl in San Diego. The Cotton Bowl will accept the Western Athletic Conference champion or the Pac-10 second-place finisher.

According to Washington sports information, the Huskies could have to wait as long as Dec. 7, the date of the WAC championship game, to be notified.

California, despite losing five of its last six games, was selected to play in the Aloha Bowl on Christmas Day in Honolulu.

Oregon, thanks to a three-game winning streak, still has a remote chance at a Copper Bowl invitation only if Texas A&M losses to Texas this weekend. If the Aggies win € giving them the mandatory seven wins for post-season play for any team that plays 12 regular-season games, they would automatically earn the berth from the Copper Bowl's agreement with the Big 12 Conference. A loss and the bid would be open. The second-place finisher in the WAC would be the other team.

Matt Brown, a member of the Copper Bowl committee, said also included on the bowl's wish list besides Oregon and Texas A&M were Michigan State, Wisconsin, Army, Navy, Rice and longshots Southern Mississippi and Eastern Carolina. The Copper Bowl will be played Dec. 27 at Arizona Stadium.
